Creative Donation Incentive Award – Jason Walker

This award celebrates the participant or team who conceived an innovative and imaginative idea, inspiring supporters to make individual donations. The recipient of this award is the individual or team who not only conceived but also promoted and energized their community around distinctive, creative, or impactful donation incentives. This year’s award goes to Jason Walker for his incredibly unique custom cards for the card game, Marvel Legendary.

Jason had custom cards created for the generic cards in Marvel Legendary that made them more interesting to other players. But, when he realized there wouldn’t be anything on the back, Jason decided to remind Marvel Legendary players WHY their donations for the custom cards mattered. He included info about “Why I Extra Life,” UVA Children’s Hospital, Extra Life, and several patient stories including his friend’s son who was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment. UVA Children’s program director was able to provide multiple stories over the past few years totaling 12 different cards! Jason announces these cards on BoardGameGeek, Facebook, Reddit, and Discord where donors post pictures after receiving their cards then generating FOMO and more people donating for the cards. Since he started this practice in 2021, Jason has raised $7,000 for UVA and has shipped cards all over the world!
