BBCH Extra Life Hero: Meet Zero!

It’s no secret that I love our Extra Life program at BBCH, but it’s mostly because of the people. Our Extra Lifers are awesome! Here is what I hope to be the first of many “introductions” to some of our amazing gaming community members who are making a big difference #ForTheKids at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH)!

Zero has been participating in Extra Life since 2019, and has raised $10,675 (and counting!) for BBCH!

What are your favorite games? “Third Person Shooters” such as PUBG, Fortnite and Gears of War

How is gaming a part of your life? I have been a competitive gamer since discovering Gears of War on the Xbox 360.  I competed at a high level in Gears 1-3 and in 2017 found Microsoft’s streaming service Mixer.  After being a viewer for some time I knew this was something I could excel in and bring my (mostly) Family Friendly content to the community.

In March of 2019 I was invited to participate in Mixer’s “Embers for all” program which allowed smaller, non-partnered streamers to start earning money through in stream currency.  While participating in the program I met a TON of other amazing streamers and we started working together on content as well as how to best support each other.

How did you find Extra Life, and what motivates you in your gaming and fundraising for BBCH? Out of this, ChannelZero.co was formed to support up and coming streamers on their journey as well as organize our efforts.  During the program I met an amazing streamer who ran a stream team called Charity Gamers.  Each month they supported a new charity and that started me streaming for charity once a month.  When Extra Life was approaching in 2019 and I learned about the charity and the ability to support the CMN Hospital of your choice I knew I was all in.  The ability to support not only Extra Life but specifically The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH) was such a great opportunity.  My niece, Lucy, spent time at BBCH after her birth so I personally knew how stressful it can be having a sick child and dealing with insurance and the financial responsibilities related to their illness.  The last thing these parents need to be worrying about is “how am I going to pay for this?” when their child is sick.

Streaming for Extra Life and the BBCH brings me so much joy and gives my streams purpose.  When I have bad days, or games, or streams I can look at the greater good.  I have had so much fun coming up with creative milestones!  I have changed my hair color more times since starting with Extra Life than I had in my entire life combined.  I have had weirder and more interesting flavors of soda and coming up with fun challenges for myself and the “Zero Heroes” Extra Life team.

My community loves to support as well. Pushing the goals and milestones each month to the point where we now donate 100% of all subscriptions each month to Extra Life!  This has been an experience that just keeps giving, figuratively and literally, as over 100 subs have been gifted this month!  We are #DoingItForLucy even though she does not remember her stay at BBCH.  Streaming for Extra Life gives every game a purpose and I could not be prouder to be part of this wonderful charity.
