Creative Competitions for Extra Life United 2023

Pre-Extra Life United Activities… Activate! 
We hope people feel the HYPE around Extra Life United this year. If you haven’t signed up, use this link and sign up for this year’s event at extra-life.org/elu by March 7, 2023.  

Over the past few years, we’ve introduced creative contests as part of Extra Life United. This year, we’re continuing that tradition and cannot wait to see what amazing creativity the Extra Life community will bring.

There will be three creative competitions this year: 

• Cosplay 
  • Amateur 
  • Professional 
• Scroll poster design 
• Minecraft 

This year we’re happy to announce part of the Extra Life United prize pool will be awarded to the winners of our cosplay, scroll poster design, and Minecraft competitions. These contests will happen the week before Extra Life United. They will be an excellent chance for the community to get involved, strengthen community relationships, and celebrate the gaming passion that so many of us share!  

Here’s how we’ll be rewarding the winners: 

• Cosplay amateur 1^st place: $3,000, 2^nd place $2,000, 3^rd place: $1,000 
• Cosplay professional 1^st place: $3,000, 2^nd place $2,000, 3^rd place: $1,000 
• Scroll poster design 1^st place: $3,000, 2^nd place $2,000, 3^rd place: $1,000 
• Minecraft 1^st place: $10,000, 2^nd place: $5,000 (distributed across the team) 

The winners will receive these funds to their fundraising page later in the year. Any registered 2023 Extra Lifer can participate in these four contests.

Cosplay Reddit Thread Information
The official thread for uploading (and voting for) the “amateur” and “professional” cosplay competitions will go live on March 25, 2023, in association with the 2023 Extra Life United event. 

When posting, please include: 

• Your preferred name (can be display name) 
• The name of the local member hospital of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals you are supporting 
• A link to your 2023 Extra Life fundraising page 
• And your submission photo! 

Entries will remain open until 12:00 a.m. ET April 1, 2023. Winners will be announced during the live broadcast on Twitch.tv/ExtraLife4Kids and on @ExtraLife4Kids social channels following the event. 
Judging criteria will consider all of the following: 

• Quality of costume 
• Accuracy related to character 
• Creativity involved with photo 

Bonus Points may be awarded to:  

• Integration of Extra Life brand/branding 

Scroll Poster Design Reddit Thread Information 
The official thread for uploading (and voting for) the Extra Life Scroll Poster design competition will go live on March 25, 2023, in association with the 2023 Extra Life United event. For reference, a scroll poster has a piece of wood on the top and bottom and hangs with string via the top piece of wood. It’d be extremely helpful to have high resolution (300 dpi or vector format) that will help with printing, CMYK colors, and  1/8″ crop marks/bleed for designs. 

When posting, please include: 

• Your preferred name (can be display name) 
• The name of the local member hospital of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals you are supporting 
• A link to your 2023 Extra Life fundraising page 
• And your submission design! 

Entries will remain open until 12:00 a.m. ET April 1, 2023. Winners will be announced during the live broadcast on Twitch.tv/ExtraLife4Kids and on the @Extra Life4Kids social channels following Extra Life United.

• Correct sizing (24 in x 36 in/ 60 cm x 90 cm) 720 x 1080 px
• Quality of design 
• Use of Extra Life logo 
• Creativity/Originality of design 

Bonus Points may be awarded to:  

• Scene/setting poster is in 
• Integration of additional Extra Life branding

What can that look like?
Extra Life has been around since 2008. Since that time, Extra Lifers have raised over $100M to change kids’ health to change the future. From streaming, playing tabletop games, to bake sales and more, there has been a plethora of ways Extra Lifers, partners and influencers have raised money for their local member children’s hospital of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Member children’s hospitals of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide the treatments and cures patients desperately need today so that they can fulfill their potential tomorrow, and help families prepare for and cope with some of the hardest moments of their lives.

15 years of Extra Life is an amazing accomplishment. What might the next 15 years look like?  

What you need to know: 
Minecraft teams will be given from Friday, March 24 at 12:01 a.m. ET to Friday, March 31 at 11:59 a.m. ET to complete a Minecraft world based on the CMN Hospitals/Extra Life theme. These teams will compete for bragging rights and part of the $150,000 prize pool offered for Extra Life United.

Your creative idea can either be an entire world, or a portion of a world and will be judged based on the following criteria: 

• Creativity 
• Complexity 
• Detail 
• Originality 
• Contest theme 
• Usage of the CMN Hospitals Extra Life logo and/or talking points 

You do not have to sign up for Extra Life United to participate, but need to be registered for Extra Life in 2023. Extra Life United registration is reserved for participants that will be participating on-site in Orlando, FL. To participate, sign up here. We have a number of Minecraft Captains to choose from! 

Judging for the competition will be based on the most creative world built, with special consideration to designs that include Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and/or Extra Life logos. The builds will be shown during the Extra Life United live broadcast and a video of judging will be released after the conclusion of the event. Meet our 2023 judges:

• 62 kids enter a local member children’s hospital of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals every minute. 
• More than 10 million children are treated at a member children’s hospital of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals every year. 
• The impact of children’s hospitals goes far beyond helping individual children and families. 
• Children’s hospitals are best positioned to positively impact children’s health and protect their futures. 
• Donations go to local hospitals to fund critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services, along with innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, child life services that put kids’ and families’ minds at ease during difficult hospital stays and financial assistance for families who could not otherwise afford these health services.  
• 100% of donations benefit local members of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. 
• Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals + Extra Life is unrelenting in their desire to make sure every child has a healthier future by raising critical funds needed by local member children’s hospitals. 
• Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals that support the health of 10 million kids each year across the U.S. and Canada.  
• Every minute, member hospitals of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide $6,500 in charitable care to patients 
• Every year, members of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide about $3.4 billion in charitable care for patients in need
