Extra Life + GameStop Gives’ Human Claw Machine Nominated for Halo Award

Who could forget the epic Human Claw Machine that Extra Life + GameStop Gives brought to E3 in 2019? Hundreds of people waited in line for hours for a turn, and although everyone walked away with a great prize, a lucky few won incredible items like gaming consoles and gaming chairs. Everyone, including the press, was buzzing about how fun this activation was for attendees. Relive the memories with this video:

Imagine our delight when we heard that this activation was nominated for a Halo Award in the category of Experiential/Event!

The Halo Awards are a part of the Engage for Good Conference in Austin on May 28, 2020. They exist to honor “corporate social initiatives and cause marketing and showcase successful consumer engagement and employee engagement efforts… This prestigious CSR, cause marketing and corporate social impact award focuses on initiatives where brand purpose and social impact intersect to help build a better world and the bottom line.”

While we’re thrilled to see more corporations engage with various charitable activations, we’re specifically proud of how natural a fit the partnership between GameStop Gives and Extra Life proves to be. GameStop has over 5,700 store locations, and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals of 170 member hospitals can easily match store locations with local children’s hospitals. The synergy gets even stronger due to the fierce gaming passions within both the Extra Life network and the GameStop network. The Extra Life Human Claw Machine, powered by GameStop Gives, was created in response to GameStop’s vision to expand the influence of Extra Life and reinforce GameStop as the video game retailer of choice for gamers at E3, the video game industry’s largest gaming expo. Inspired by a classic arcade claw game, GameStop helped create an experience that dipped participants into a pit filled with video games, collectibles, gaming accessories and consoles donated by GameStop and their vendor partners. While waiting in line and upon prize redemption, participants were surrounded by cause-messaging about the impact of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and how they can make a difference by signing up and participating in Extra Life. This powerful activation caught the eyes of 60,000+ E3 attendees and made waves across social media and through traditional press outlets.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals was also honored with a secondary 2020 Halo Award nomination in the category of Consumer Donation for the Panda Express Year Round Point of Sale Campaign: Panda Express and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and additional nonprofits. Last year, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals won a 2019 Halo Award Best Health Category Campaign: My Special Aflac Duck: Aflac and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
