Extra Life Partner of the Year – Daybreak Games
Daybreak Games is a worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online games and emergent gameplay, best known for blockbuster hits and franchises such as EverQuest®, EverQuest®II, PlanetSide®2, and H1Z1. Daybreak also publishes and develops games based on world-renowned IPs, including DC Universe™ Online, The Lord of the Rings Online™, and Dungeons & Dragons Online®. Daybreak Games is privately owned by Enad Global 7 AB (publ). The company’s executive team serves under the leadership of CEO Ji Ham. Daybreak is headquartered in San Diego, CA, and has development studios in Austin, TX, and Boston, MA.
Daybreak Games’ participation in Extra Life began in 2015. Since then, the company and its development studios have raised over $726,000 for children’s hospitals with over $438,000 of that being raised in 2022 and 2023 alone.
In 2023, Daybreak Games became a Super Team for the first time. This allowed the four main studios that participate each year to feed their collective totals up into an overall Super Team total, leading to increased participation and excitement.
The four studios that participate under the Daybreak Games umbrella are:
- Standing Stone Games: Raised $174,000+ (mostly for Boston Children’s Hospital) since 2018
- Rogue Planet Games: Raised $75,000+ (mostly for Rady Children’s Hospital) since 2020
- Dimensional Ink: Raised $63,000+ (mostly for Dell Children’s) since 2019
- Darkpaw Games: Raised $335,000+ (mostly for Rady Children’s Hospital) since 2020
Each year, Daybreak Games makes a $20,000 donation to Extra Life. $5,000 is allocated to each of their four studios to help kick start their fundraising efforts. They also issue a press release to gaming outlets to generate hype and encourage their games’ communities to register for Extra Life under one of their teams. In 2023, all studios except Rogue Planet Games offered donor, fundraiser, and group incentives to their games’ communities. These have a huge, demonstrated influence on fundraising activity and get a lot of engagement.
