Meet These Extra Lifers Fundraising with Tabletop Games

Tabletop gaming has a long and proud history within Extra Life. Gamers have all kinds of different tastes when it comes to what they enjoy playing and we like to honor our more traditional gamers during Tabletop Appreciation Weekend every year. 2020 will mark our fifth Tabletop Appreciation Weekend. Here are just a few people who keep the spirit of tabletop-based fundraising alive during the ongoing pandemic.

Orcryst Gaming

A long-time veteran of Extra Life fundraising, Orcryst Gaming had to take a two-year break from Extra Life, but he’s back for 2020! Rather than running a live play tabletop RPG or a board game channel, Orcryst Gaming streams himself painting miniatures, the small models used in many tabletop RPGs. This year, he’s aiming to raise over $1,000 USD for CHEO Foundation in Ontario, Canada. If you need to chill and marvel over some life-like painting skills, Orcryst Gaming’s got you. His work is incredible, so don’t sleep on it! Check out their Twitch channel and support their fundraising efforts.

Nelinde

Most Extra Lifers raise money for their local children’s hospital. Nelinde, however, extends her support from the other side of the Atlantic. A Welsh streamer and artist, Nelinde’s channel and fundraising mix playing tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons with painting miniatures. Occasionally, she’ll throw in a session with an MMO like World of Warcraft. One of her signature moves is to pull incredibly long fundraising streams that last 12+ hours. Our hats off to our five-year, overseas Extra Life veteran! Check out her Twitch channel and support her fundraising efforts.

HannieTravels’ The Greatest Show

While many people are a member of a D&D group that might have one or two members that raise money for Extra Life, it’s rare to find a group that entirely made up of Extra Lifers. HannieTravels’ Pathfinder group, however, all participate in Extra Life. This year, they are working through Pathfinder’s Extinction Curse Adventure Path on D20. In addition to HannieTravels as the DM and channel host, the group is made up of: Mocha Jones, Tim Heath, Dustin & Kindra, Husband Derek, and DJ_DarkwingD. All members of the adventuring party are members of team Quilt City Heroes, and together they have raised nearly $10,000 USD! Check out her Twitch channel and support her fundraising efforts.

Tabletop gaming has been a part of Extra Life from the beginning and we are so glad to see it flourishing despite the conditions of COVID-19 keeping countless groups from having board game nights or RPG sessions in person. Seeing the ingenuity of Extra Lifers never ceases to amaze us. Keep up the excellent work, and remember to let us know when you’re doing cool stuff so we can spread the word of your great deeds in the world of tabletop and beyond. Also, don’t forget:

Tabletop Appreciation Weekend approaches! This marks the fourth year Extra Life has set aside a weekend in August for our tabletop gamers to gather and play their favorite games to support the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital of their choice.

Magic the Gathering? Dungeons & Dragons? Risk? Whatever you enjoy playing with your friends and family can be both fun and help those in need. The event also serves as a springboard to get people thinking about Game Day, which is coming up on November 7.

Sign up for Extra Life to help sick and injured kids in hospitals around the US and Canada by playing games!
