What is Extra Life?

Extra Life is one of the world’s most passionate and giving online communities. Participants raise money to help treat sick and injured kids while playing their favorite games and unlocking sweet gaming swag along the way. Extra Life is about showing the world how gamers can have a positive impact on their communities. It’s about doing what they already love and doing it for a great cause: Saving the lives of local kids and making a difference for their families.

How can playing games help my local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital?

Playing games isn’t exactly what helps your local CMN Hospital. It’s telling your friends, family, coworkers, and other community members about what you’re doing and why you’re doing it and then asking them to make a donation to your fundraising page. When you’re playing to support local CMN Hospitals in Southeast Texas, 100% of their donation goes directly to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth and Jasper Memorial Hospital to save the lives of kids and provide the best medical care possible.

How did Extra Life Get Started?

Extra Life began in 2008 as a way of honoring Victoria Enmon. Tori grew up in Southeast Texas and was a cheerleader at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School. Her battle against acute lymphoblastic leukemia inspired the Sarcastic Gamer Community to show her some support. Members sent in video games and bought gifts to keep Tori’s spirits up despite numerous hospital stays and three bouts with the deadly disease.

Tragically, we lost Tori to cancer in January 2008 at the age of 15. Later that year, Sarcastic Gamers were asked if they would be interested in starting a 24-hour video game marathon to raise money for the hospital that treated and fought beside Tori. Extra Life was born and, in 2008 and 2009, they raised a combined $302,000, 100% of which went directly to help kids like Tori at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital where she was treated.

While thousands of gamers, more than 100 websites and more than 12,000 donors were happy to support Extra Life, many expressed their desire to raise money to help kids closer to home. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals was perfect solution to expand Extra Life into more communities. Now, when you sign up to participate in Extra Life, you won’t just be raising money for kids. You’ll be supporting LOCAL kids and their families at your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
