Use Milestones and Incentives to Maximize Your Fundraising
Want to raise 3 times more for Extra Life? Milestones & Incentives are proven to do that!
Setting small goals on the way to accomplish larger objectives helps in many areas of life. It turns out that this also applies to Extra Life fundraising! Each person who registers for Extra Life can set up incentives for individuals who donate certain amounts to their page as well as overarching milestones that trigger fun, attention-grabbing events. Not only do these two features overwhelmingly help people raise more money for the kids, milestones and incentives also provide a more meaningful and personal connection to the people who want to help you toward your fundraising goal.
We took a look at the data and noticed many participants leveled up their fundraising by enabling incentives and getting the word out. On average, they raised between 3x-6x more for their hospitals than Extra Lifers who didn’t use this feature.
We see a similar increase for Extra Lifers who enabled milestones. With an average boost to fundraising by between 3x-5x over participants who didn’t enable.
There are all kinds of ways to implement your own unique sets of milestones and incentives. We’re often blown away by how creative and incredible our community can be. If you are stuck on what sort of milestones and incentives you should make for your own fundraiser, here are some past examples from our community:
Incentives
FargoBrady is offering a “wheel spin” for anyone who donates $50. You can make your own wheel IRL or you can use a tool like wheeldecide.com to create your own custom digital wheel to show on your stream.
AirinTV offers $10 USD donors the incentive to receive mahjong replay analysis to help up their game by Shinkii.
Chris lives in South Korea and is offering to send physical goods from Korea to donors. Everything from postcards to socks and a whole lot more.
GEEmale uses more donations as a donation incentive and has pledged to match donations for an additional $100 USD every month!
Speeeeez has a whole slew of incentives, but one of the most eye-catching has to be his offer of wearing any hat for 8 hours – up to and including his mother-in-law’s wig.
Milestones
Corey McGee is offering to run 1 mile dressed as cupid for every $100 USD he raises toward his goal of $1,000 USD. If he makes it to his goal, he will also get an Extra Life tattoo!
Travis Woodall, a content manager for D&D Adventurers League, offers a slew of incentives and milestones related to D&D Adventurers League goodies and powers for use in actual league play.
Christopher Jones has some of the most creative milestones we’ve seen. He initially offered milestones every $20 USD to eat his way through a bag of spicy jelly beans, another incentive to play through Spice World, and paintball to honor passing $10,000 USD raised over 7 years of Extra Life. Additional milestones include a Sailor Moon tabletop RPG game, a recording of his own rendition of I Want It That Way, and a polar plunge.
Get out there, set your incentives and milestones after a hardcore brainstorm session, and take your fundraising to the next level!
