Congrats Joseph Macaranas, Our Newest Angel in Action!
Every quarter, Extra Life honors a volunteer who consistently goes above and beyond with the Angel in Action Award. Today, we’re delighted to announce our newest Angels in Action, Joseph Macaranas!
We received multiple nominations from fellow Extra Lifers who wrote in to celebrate Joseph’s remarkable support of Toronto’s kids who are treated at SickKids.
Fundraising Super-Power
Joseph’s passion and initiative reveal his super-power as a fundraising hero. As one nominator explained, Joseph organized “a 24-hour gaming event (across the lunch hours of 2 weeks) at [his employer] AMD. He rallied his coworkers to support Extra Life.” He was able to secure a matching grant from AMD and raise approximately $7,000.00 CAD to help heal Toronto’s kids. Additionally, his efforts brought 35 volunteers and 125 donors into the Extra Life community!
“This was an incredibly successful event and a great example of how to bring Extra Life to the office. Not only did the event itself raise a lot, but it sparked conversation with AMD for further support, including being the charity of choice at an upcoming summer event.”
Joyful Cosplay While Recruiting
Not only is Joseph tactically raising funds in his workplace, he also volunteers to attend gaming conventions and events to recruit more people from Ontario into the Extra Life community. A nominator explained that “he shows up at cons, volunteers tirelessly and with enthusiasm, and is a great team member who we simply love having around.”
He works hard as a volunteer, and he keeps things fun with his amazing cosplay looks. From “cosplaying at booths to shouting rally cries to lift people’s spirits, he is always engaging with new members of the Guild and supporting local participants.”
An Amazing Online Activist
Lastly, we love the way that Joseph promotes the Extra Life cause in online communities. A nominator explained that “Joseph is a constant presence in our Discord, supporting people’s ideas, hyping up events, and generally being supportive.” Is there anywhere Joseph goes that he isn’t trying to help heal kids?!
