Time to Get Hype for Extra Life United 2020!
Extra Life United has been going strong for five years now, and the 6th annual Extra Life United is gearing up to set a new standard for the show. This year the event will be held at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, FL with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals sending out the call to all of its charity gamers. Everyone who works hard to raise money for sick and injured kids through Extra Life is invited join in the festivities and compete in a tournament to unlock a portion of $150,000 USD for their local children’s hospital.
Event tickets are completely free this year! There are two different types of event registrations: Attendee or Tori’s Angels. Attendees gain access to experiential games, can participate in Children’s Hospital Week, meet the 2020 Champion kids and families who have been helped by Extra Life fundraising, and more. Those who register as one of Tori’s Angels take on the responsibility of helping everyone attending the event have the best experience possible. Angels have different roles, like serving as tournament support, manning the info desk, working registration, or taking pictures during the event.
Those who want to participate in the tournament to win more money for their local children’s hospital will need to register as Attendees. Instructions will be sent to guide Attendees in how to register for the tournament games of their choice on smash.gg. A smash.gg account will be required. Registering in each tournament comes with a suggested $20USD donation to help facilitate the tournaments. Each Attendee may participate in up to four of the games available during the tournament. And for the first time ever, top participants may win personal prizes of up to $250 USD!

In addition to the tournament, one of the big draws this year will be Extra Life Hackathon 2020! In this portion of Extra Life United, people from across the Extra Life community will come together to present their best ideas on how to guide Extra Life into the future. These ideas support the pillars of the organization like community building, charity-oriented esports, livestreaming tools for fundraising, and new, outside-the-box ideas that stretch what Extra Life can do!
The top submissions to the Hackathon earn their originators an invitation to Extra Life United to present their ideas to a panel of judges. The winning idea will then be implemented into the wider Extra Life experience. With each of these ideas that makes it to the end of the Hackathon process, Extra Life becomes more reflective of what you, the fundraisers on the frontlines, want to see from us. It’s a truly exciting experience and we are so happy that the Hackathon is a part of Extra Life United.
